Make the fluffiest, softest Rava Idlis in minutes!
Rava idli is Rice idli’s healthier cousin! A soft, steamed dish made from Suji (rava), this breakfast staple, unlike the Rice idli, is usually prepared with different vegetables (carrots, peas, onions, green chillies), ghee roasted suji, curd, and a teaspoon of baking soda or eno.
The batter takes approximately 15-20 minutes to set. When it’s ready, ladle it into idli moulds and sprinkle cashews on top. When you’ve filled the moulds, let it steam for about 10-12 minutes.
Pro tip - Before taking the idlis out from the pot or mould, use the edge of the knife to check whether the idli is cooked. If there is any residue on the knife, let the idlis steam for a minute or two longer.
Serve your Rava idlis hot, with coconut chutney and turmeric potato gravy (palya).
Important note: While making Rava Idli, it is extremely important to ensure the proportions are right, the ingredients are followed and are steamed for the said duration. A little too much or too little of any ingredient, and you will either end up with paste like Idlis or Idlis as hard as a rock; both indigestible.
