Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. After a while, your motivation wanes and you cannot push through in your workouts like you used to be able to do. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. There are many people who lose the weight and keep the weight off. How do they manage to accomplish that?

In order to begin a reliable fitness regimen, you have to know what your goals are. Is your goal to lose a lot of weight, or just tone your muscles? Are you hoping that working out will leave you feeling energized throughout the day? What is it that you wish to accomplish?

Contemplate keeping a journal that tracks your weight loss. Writing down what you eat daily and making a note of your weight is all you have to do. When you write everything down, it will be easy for you to identify patterns and problem areas. Then you can make effective changes to your eating habits.

When you let yourself go too long without eating, you will naturally crave foods that are high in calories and fat. This is a primal instinct that is hard to eliminate. Avoid being faced with poor choices unexpectedly by planning your meals and snacks for each day and packing them to take along wherever you go. Rather than eat lunch in a restaurant, pack your own. Homemade food usually has fewer calories and less fat than what you would eat at a fast food joint or restaurant.

There is more to a successful weight loss program than just a good diet. Your weight loss will be greatly enhanced when you combine healthy eating with exercise. Find activities that you enjoy to make it more likely that you will stick with your exercise regimen. Keep an eye out for fun physical activities that you think you would like. Bring a friend to an interesting class or be alert for the chance to make a new friend.

This is a common piece of advice, but few people actually follow it. Simply throw all of your junk food and unhealthy snacks away. If they are out of sight, they are out of mind. Instead, make sure you have a lot of healthy options in your pantry, such as fruit, vegetables and nuts. Make not so good choices unavailable to you: if it's not around you won't think about it.

Ask your friends to become your support system as you try to lose weight. You are more likely to stick to your plans when someone else is rooting for you. Having someone to cheer you on can keep you going when you are out of steam. When you need a little pep talk, pick up the phone and talk to a friend. They'll likely know just what to say to get you back on track.
