Understanding The Skiers’ Code

Make sure your family ski holiday is a safe and happy one with this quick guide to the FIS’s Skiers’ Code.

Mention La Tania and the conversation will inevitably drift towards favourite runs and how it compares to Val Thorens and Tignes. What most people don’t know however is that La Tania, which was purpose-built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, is so much more than just a ski resort. As the snow melts away and the temperature begins to rise, La Tania takes on a new identity as a haven for extreme water sports.

When it’s summer in La Tania undoubtedly the place to be is the magnificent Doron de Bozel river, which flows swiftly through beautiful wooded canyons. Whether you’ve already had your fair share of adventures on the water or you’re a first-timer wanting to dip your toe (and a little bit more!) into extreme water sports, here’s a run-down of all the water sports that anyone can experience on the Doron. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and towel, because when it’s summer in La Tania it all starts to get wet and wild!

White Water Rafting

The fast-flowing Doron, with its series of class 4 and class 5 rapids, is great for anyone who already has some white water rafting experience under their belt. There’s no guarantee you’ll always be horizontal or that you won’t be completely under water for a second or two – but hey, that’s what makes rafting such a wild adventure! Everyone has to pull their weight in white water rafting, which means you’ll need to stick together and work as a team if you want to conquer the river.

Canyoning

Canyoning is a pulsating sport which requires endurance and a little bit of daredevilry. Over the course of a session you’ll be plunging into rock pools, scrambling up canyon sides and taking leaps of faith by abseiling down narrow waterfalls. The changing scenery and range of challenges make canyoning exciting and enjoyable for first-timers and aficionados alike. And there’s always time to stop for a moment or two and relish the feeling of being truly immersed in nature and the glories of a summer in La Tania.

Hydrospeed

Take on the rapids with just a body board between you and the raging torrent. This new solo sport is ideal for confident swimmers and those not afraid of getting knocked about now and again! You’ll have a reinforced wetsuit and safety helmet for protection though, so there’s nothing stopping you from getting stuck in, riding the waves and making a splash.

Kayaking

If you want a little more protection than a body board then kayaking is a great option. It’ll still be you taking on the waves and rapids of the Doron but you’re less likely to be swirled around as much! Without needing to concentrate on stability, you’ll have plenty of time to take stock of the beautiful surroundings as you glide downriver and enjoy your summer in La Tania.
