Officials in Ukraine have declared that they will not be able to open their airspace for civilian flights because of security concerns, which include fighting from European Union countries.
Additionally the European regulator of aviation has warned airlines against operating flights through the areas bordering Russia and Belarus because of the military's activities, Theactualizar reports.
Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin authorised a military operation in Ukraine and the country was attacked across multiple borders as per an account by the Ukrainian State Border Service early on Thursday.
"At approximately 5:15 a.m. at the time, the state frontier of Ukraine within the border of Belarus, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus was attacked by Russian troops backed with Belarus,"the service stated in this regard.
Similar to the previous statement, attacks are currently being carried out across Luhansk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions which target Border patrols and units, and checkpoints.
The Ukraine State Air Traffic Services Enterprise stated that the airspace was shut for flights beginning at 04:45 GMT on Thursday, while stating it was because air traffic operations have been stopped.
As per the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) the airspace of Russia and Belarus can also pose safety dangers.
"In particular there is a chance of intentional targeting as well as mistaken identification of civilian aircraft. The existence and the potential the use of a variety of airborne and ground weapons systems create a significant danger for flights operated by civil aircraft at all altitudes as well as flight levels ,"
EASA said that Russia's defense ministry had sent a message to Ukraine with a urgent warning of the danger to safety of flight as due to the use of military weapons and equipment starting at 04:45 GMT and urging the Ukrainian air traffic controllers authority to suspend flights.
The current crisis has prompted the countries around Ukraine to prepare to handle an increase in immigrants.
"We must be ready for a flood that could be as large as one million ," the Deputy Interior Minister, Maciej Wesik has stated in this regard, according to a report to the Guardian.
