Too Brutal, These 5 Games Are Censored In Several Countries

Many games have had to accept such censorship policies, most of them are only implemented in a few countries

Just like other entertainment media, video games cannot be avoided from what is called censorship. For many reasons, some games are forced to remove or censor controversial elements that are carried. This generally happens in games that contain explicit content, especially for things that are brutal.

5 Games That Are Censored In Several Countries

In recent years, many games have had to accept such censorship policies, although most of them are only implemented in a few countries. Here are five games that are censored in several countries because they are considered too brutal.

1. The Last of Us

The setting or time offered by The Last of Us is one of the most brutal. With civilization shattered by the presence of a mutated fungal virus, the survivors must face a harsh and unforgiving life. Because of the violent world, The Last of Us finally got censorship in Europe, especially in its multiplayer mode.

The body being cut off was removed entirely, and the blood element was also made less brutal. The sequel The Last of Us also received a similar treatment, with the Japanese version being censored for scenes involving explicit content.

2. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the next Naughty Dog game to be censored alongside The Last of Us. But unlike The Last of Us, the violence in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune isn't that brutal. However, this does not save him from censorship, especially outside the United States.

In Japan, enemies who should bleed when shot are not made to bleed at all. It is said that censorship is unavoidable, no matter which region Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is purchased from, as long as the console used is a version explicitly distributed for the Japanese market.

3. Until Dawn

Fans of the horror genre will probably enjoy what the interactive game from Supermassive Games – Until Dawn has to offer. In this 2015 game, players choose to decide who makes it out alive after a party in an isolated mountain hut ends deadly.

Those who fail to survive meet their end in gruesome ways. That's why, once again in Japan, Until Dawn gets censored. One that received massive censorship was when one of the characters was grievously cut to death by a chainsaw.

4. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Although Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty isn't the most brutal game ever made, it still contains scenes later censored in many countries. The censorship does not only occur in the PS2 version but also in the PC and Xbox versions.

While the US regional version was uncensored, the European and Japanese versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were censored, especially for scenes featuring blood. The element is then removed or just lowered in intensity, so it doesn't look too brutal.

5. Indigo Prophecy

The American region or market generally rarely censors, no matter how explicit the content of a game is. But in the case of Indigo Prophecy, the situation is reversed. Known as Fahrenheit in America, Indigo Prophecy received some censorship in America and was completely uncensored in Europe, which is usually very sensitive to graphic elements in a game.

However, the censored scenes were not scenes that contained a lot of blood but "naughty" scenes. In 2015, Indigo Prophecy got a remastered version that "unlocks" content or previously censored settings.
That was a review of some games censored in several countries because they were considered too brutal. What do you think about the abusive or explicit content in the games above? Is it worth getting censored, or is it not?
