Starting a career in music is not something you can build overnight. You don’t just start a music career with your band and expect an agency to call you the next day. No, it all starts from zero and it takes a long time to success. However, you can create a band and perform to get yourself a name even though it is small. You have to find music venue for hire and showcase your skill there. Being invited by an agency is a later affair. Right now, focus on gathering more audience and turning them into your fans by making music and improving your music live performance. How? Keep reading this article to find out!
Build a buzz
One of the hardest parts in music career is how to get people to watch your music performance. For that reason, the main focus you should prioritize before anything is building a buzz. I know building a buzz itself is not an easy matter. However, there are many ways you can do that:
Arrange to have a couple of your live music performances filmed
Again, this is a great kind of content for YouTube. However, the main idea of this is that this should be done for your self-review. You know how you sound on-stage, but do you know how you look? Even if you know how you sound on-stage, do you know how you really sound from viewers’ perspective. Yes, that’s the point of this method. You are too busy performing that you forget to notice if your performance is good or not or if there is something missing or not. By listening and watching your own performance, you can take note of what is lacking and what should be improved.
Create a meaning in your songs
Every song tells different stories. That’s because songs are written to express feelings and tell unknown stories hidden in every lyric. Your job is to be a good storyteller. When I said “good storyteller,” I meant showing your audience about your story, not simply telling it. There is a difference between telling a story and showing a story. When people read novels, they are naturally imagining visual pictures of every scene written in that novel. The same goes for music and lyrics. Your lyrics should create visuals that help people understand the feelings expressed in your songs because when you are ‘telling’ them your stories, you make them know your stories. However, if you are ‘showing’ them, you help them understand your feelings in those stories.
Do you know what is more important when trying to improve your live music performance? It’s the consistent practice! Practice makes perfect; therefore, practice, practice and practice until your performance is perfect!
