Never Before Seen David Hockney Art, Unveiled For The First Time

London’s Royal Academy of Arts presents “David Hockney RA: A Bigger Picture” from January 21 to April 9, 2012. This exhibition is David Hockney’s first major exposition of large-scale works of art inspired by the East Yorkshire landscape, created especially for the Royal Academy of Arts galleries. Included in this exhibition are his new, never before seen landscape paintings, drawings, photos and film. The exhibition spans 50 years of David Hockney’s art, in various mediums, demonstrating his creative fascination and depiction of landscape. David Hockney’s gallery will comprise of new work dating from 2005, that captures the beauty of changing seasons, life’s growth cycle and the beautiful Yorkshire landscape as seen through his eyes.

Also on exhibit is the innovative photography – a demonstration of how Hockney made use of modern technology to create art with his Polaroid camera, a colored photocopier, and more recently, his iPhone and iPad. Included in the gallery is an exhibit of his iPad drawings and a series of film captured using 18 cameras, displayed as one on multiple screens, creating a visual canvass of landscapes that David Hockney has created. This exhibit of never before seen works of art by David Hockney has been organized by the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao and the Museum Ludwig, Cologne. The David Hockney artist exhibition has been curated by the independent curator Marco Livingstone and Edith Devaney of the Royal Academy of Arts.

To help visitors appreciate David Hockney paintings and works of art, the exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog, introduced by Marco Livingstone. Essays by notable writers such as Margaret Drabble, Tim Barringer, Martin Gayford, Xavier Salomon and David Hockney himself, will explore the artists’ work. A number of essays, including an introduction by Marco Livingstone, will explore the artist’s embracing of landscape art throughout his illustrious career. The catalog delves into David Hockney’s place in the landscape tradition, his recent video works and his delight in new technologies.

Born in 1937, Bradford Yorkshire, David Hockney studied at the Bradford School of Art before heading to the Royal College of Art. Hockney established his name and reputation in the art world during his student days. His work featured in Young Contemporaries heralded the birth of pop art. Current demand for tickets is extremely high and the Royal Academy of Arts have now released an additional allocation of advance tickets for purchase.
