Do's and Don'ts When You Capture Wedding Ceremony Photographs

Wedding is a whole big event beginning from the pre-wedding activities and going on until the couple leaves for their honeymoon.

Wedding is a whole big event beginning from the pre-wedding activities and going on until the couple leaves for their honeymoon. However, the most important part of the entire day is the service or the ceremony where the bride and groom take their vows and become eternally bonded. Capturing pictures of the ceremony requires a great deal of planning because you should never disrupt the service. This can be pretty challenging, especially for an inexperienced photographer. Here are certain do's and don'ts you need to keep in mind.

Do's

Make yourself invisible

You need to completely unobtrusive when you capture ceremony frames. Find a good spot and avoid a lot of movement. You can prepare the bride and groom to pose or stand in a certain manner that helps you get the best shots. In any case, never interrupt the ceremony.

Make use of the "lull" periods to move around

As you gain more experience in wedding photography, you learn to identify "lull" periods that are common to all weddings. Use these periods to reposition yourself. For example, plan to move when all eyes are closed in prayer. Move when hymns are being sung.

Use different lenses

Some important moments of the ceremony can be tricky to capture. For example, the moment when the couple exchanges rings is difficult to capture because of obstructions in visibility. So, you need a long lens to grab the shot. Carry different lenses so that you don't miss out on the important moments.

Respect the sanctity of the ceremony

Although you are at the wedding to do your job, do not treat the ceremony as a photo shoot session. Respect the sanctity of the ceremony and click pictures accordingly.

Don'ts

Do not blow flash in their faces

The bride and groom are always overcome by emotions and are involved during the service. Do not ruin their reverie by blowing bright flash light in their faces. Use an appropriate camera and practice to take pictures without using flash.

Do not move more than five times during the ceremony

While moving around is necessary, make sure that you don't move incessantly. Restrict repositioning to five times during the ceremony. If you need to move more, walk out of the church and reenter from the other end if possible. However, this is not very recommended because you could lose some good shots.

Do not cause delays

Make sure that you don't become the cause for delays. Do not hold up the ceremony to get some shots. Let everything flow smoothly. You need to adapt yourself to the ongoing ceremony.

Do not block view

The worst thing that you can do is to block view for the guests. Remember, guests come to the wedding in order to be a part of the ceremony. Do not ruin their experience by stationing yourself in a position that blocks their view. Several photographers station themselves in the center of the church. This is not right.

When you know how to behave, you come across as a thorough professional, which is a great thing for your business.
