Tips for Rocking Social Media Optimization

While SEO is still a major part of promoting and getting traffic to a website, social media optimization is fast gaining precedence. Social media optimization is proving to be a better and economical way for companies to promote their features and services, because of various reasons. However, like every other activity, a blogger or a SEO specialist needs to consider some aspects before beginning to promote their website or blog on the social networking websites, and here are just some of them.

The first thing to remember is not to clog your friend's list, or even your subscriber's list with updates about your site or blog. If you have made a page or a group, keep your Shares and Updates at a minimum, and they should never be anything that the public at large will not like, or be uncomfortable with. You should refrain from sharing every post and change on your website on the social networking website if you have a website that churns out topics on a daily basis. You should also be careful about what kind of jokes you are posting on the group.

This does not mean that your group or page should languish in the realm of the Unupdated for months on end. Update your page regularly, but be careful about what you post on it, and never do it more than twice in a day.

Refinement and subtlety is the key for a successful social media optimization of a particular website. If all your collateral screams out that you need to 'Like' a particular thing or share it, you might be overdoing it, and putting off people who are genuinely interested in your site and would have subscribed to your group or page anyway.

Most of the groups nowadays have external posts too, like a joke, or a funny story, or an announcement that the page owners think would be beneficial for the page members. It is all right to post such, but you should remember not to cannibalize your own brand, and not to post about products and services that you are not sure.  Even sites that have a fringy, edgy concept get into trouble if their jokes are too politically incorrect.

You should also choose your social network wisely. Though many would think that there are just two or three social networks, it is a misconception. Make a list of all the social networks available, and make an informed decision about which network you would like to have your presence in, considering aspects like which one fits your niche, has more members from your niche, and other nitty-gritty.

You should refrain from sending friend requests to people who subscribe to your group or page.  There is a difference between liking a particular concept, or a website and being your social networking friend. However, you can surely add someone who likes your page as a friend if you have had a genuine conversation with them either on the page or otherwise.

These are just some of the aspects that one should consider while promoting their websites or blogs on social media networks.
