How Other Crafts Influence Miniature Gardening

If you consider yourself, a mini garden enthusiast it is very likely that you have your hands

If you consider yourself, a mini garden enthusiast it is very likely that you have your hands in a few different creative hobbies that could enhance your miniature gardening world. I know that sometimes when I am looking around the Internet for new ideas or plans for my future fairy gardens that I get completely distracted by another craft idea that pops into my line of vision. I will see homemade gnome doors; Popsicle stick fences, and recycled materials used to create other mini accessories. When I am not writing I am either gardening, crocheting or working on DIY projects around the house with my husband. I have never been the type to be afraid to get my hands dirty - and the most random things can lead to a moment of divine inspiration. A couple of weeks ago while babysitting a friend’s son I was inspired, with the idea to build new vegetable gardens throughout my yard, by the Lincoln Logs™ that we were playing with - my husband found a way to bring my plans to life and now I am the proud owner of four new raised veggie gardens.

Not only do I have a full-sized garden, but we also created a mini raised vegetable garden.  After a trip to the local toy store, my husband and I came home with a container of Lincoln Logs™ that were promptly sprayed with a coat of polyurethane to preserve them from the weather. Now it was time to assemble the raised beds, add a little soil, and then insert metal and resin miniature cabbage, carrots, and corn. The final step was to apply a ground cover of fairy mulch. Imagine the reaction of the wee folk as they came out of their fairy houses to see the new garden!

When you are looking to add a new miniature garden to your home it is a good idea to take inspiration from creative things around you and other crafts that you enjoy. I know that I have tons of ribbon and yarn left over from many projects throughout my own home, and It struck me that I could use these bits and pieces to create something truly special in a miniature garden. Some of my favorite mini accessories are the ones that look like animals - specifically farm animals. I have always wanted to add them to a miniscape, but did not want to insert a large picket fence that would block the view and not be a fun pop of color like the one I prefer in my miniature gardens. In my eyes, the more color the better!

Then it struck me that I could create a fiber fence using a simple double crochet technique and hold the corners up with stakes and it would create a ‘pen like’ space for the animals, but would be a more exciting way to incorporate another one of my passions into my miniature garden. Another gifted friend of mine also recommended the idea of creating a hammock or small immortal flowers to add to any miniature garden that could be a celebration of a person’s blended passions. The creative ideas continued, I recently purchased a fairy clothesline that has two, scrolled, metal picks for the clothes poles with three netted tutus handing from the line. Using my crafting skills, I crocheted some tiny fairy outfits to hang among the pretty skirts. When you are a part of any crafting circle, you will always find people who can think of different and unique ideas that lead to a breakthrough in the world of fairy gardening.
