Creating Family Memories in a Miniature Fairy Gardening

Who doesn’t have a wonderful memory of lying in the sun on a beach or fishing in a boat with your family and enjoying the outdoor experience? It is a memory that would be great to immortalize by recreating the scene in a fairy garden. Some of my favorite childhood memories are in my dad’s old fishing boat, with my three older siblings and a blue Tupperware container full of worms and an old Styrofoam bucket to store the caught fish. We would usually fish for hours, reapplying sunblock and catching dinner. The whole day would end with a bucket of fish that my dad would methodically filet and clean, while my mom would fry up the whole bucket.

Plan a fairyscape of memories by selecting a pick-up truck, boulders, a fishing pole, and a bear with a fish in his mouth that would enhance your miniature garden choices to immortalize this memory. Each spring a good friend of mine likes to create miniature garden landscapes and photograph them before she switches out the accessories to create a new design capturing her remembrances. She has a whole photo album of previous miniature fairy gardens. I know that in the Midwest people tend to love experiencing the outdoors, lake living, and tending to their cabins. We spend as much time as we can baking in the sun, gardening, cleaning up our yards, and maintaining our lawns. Placing fairies, gnomes, and trolls in a mini garden displaying everyday events tells the story of our childhood.

My brother and his fiancé actually were engaged on a boat, at a cabin in the middle of a rainy summer day last year. A container fairy garden would be a fun gift to give them - celebrating and a remembering that special time in their lives. On the beach, the Lilac Flower Fairy would be waiting for a kiss from the Heart’s Ease Fairy as they celebrate the proposal. In a nearby pond, their boat floats on water made from blue resin raindrops. Behind the couple is a fairy cottage that resembles the cabin from their memories. That is part of the reason why miniature gardening is so fun and you can always dress up a garden with a few playful fairies to create a more magical effect.

When I think about designing a miniature garden, I want to be expressive and plant a garden full of good memories. The idea of a day at the lake with family and friends is one of the best memories I can imagine. When you think about how you want to play up a day at the lake - you could add a fairy home to simulate a cabin or possibly a group of tents to show off some camping. You want the fairy garden to be a snapshot of all of the good feelings associated with lake events. A container fairyscape would be a welcomed addition to anyone's home, or an appreciated gift to a friend.
