In doing so you will receive long term health benefits both physically and mentally. Here are five important factors to implement into your daily life to improve your overall health and wellbeing:

1. Diet

Maintain a proper diet of healthy foods which includes proteins, carbohydrates, and fiber.  Increase your consumption of plants foods such as fruits and vegetables and limit the amount of saturated and trans fats you consume. Remember to keep everything in moderation, so eat roughly the same amount of calories that your body is using. A healthy diet will keep our bodies strong, reduce cardiovascular disease and improve our moods. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Drink at least 2 liters of water each day on average, and increase this amount if you partake in any physical activity or when the weather is hot and dehydrating.

2. Exercise

We need to get our bodies moving to stay healthy. This can be simple moderate exercise such as walking for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week, or more strenuous activity which builds muscle and improves cardiovascular health. If you have a very busy lifestyle, there are a variety of home-exercise machines, such as rowing machines and compact treadmills, which can help you work-out at your convenience, such as when watching television.  Many home exercise machines can be folded and tidied away easily, like the evolve folding treadmill, making them easy and convenient to have around. As a general rule, any exercise you undertake should make you break out in a sweat as this means your body is working hard, and sweating helps to detoxify the body.

3. Sleep

Decent restful sleep is essential for good health. On average expect to need around 7 to 8 hours sleep a night, but try to work out what your personal best sleeping cycle is. Quality sleep helps us maintain good mental health and physicality. Research shows that sleep deprivation over a period of nights results in individuals who are unable to perform as well on complex mental tasks as those who have had a minimum of 7 hours sleep.  So keep your sleep quota up.

4. Meditation

Introducing meditation into your life can help reduce stress. It may seem strange when at first, but you will soon feel the benefits. Meditation can simply be sitting in a quiet place and focusing on your breath for 10 minutes, or more complex methods which will require a little study to learn.

5. Happiness

Making sure you are happy may sound silly or corny, but with depression figures on the rise, it is essential to recognize the importance of being happy. Make sure you find joy in life and indulge in activities which make you feel good. Feeling happy releases feel-good endorphins into our bodies, helping our mental wellbeing and improving our immune system.
