Even the thought of dentists makes us feel wary, and sometimes nauseous; yet dentists are the ones who pluck that decaying tooth out taking extreme care to make us feel comfortable. Like they say, dentists make a clean job of it. So here are five movies, some that do complete justice while others that make us laugh or bring out our worst nightmares, in regards with the misunderstood breed of individuals called dentists.

- The Secret Lives Of Dentists (2002): This movie was adapted from the novella 'The Age Of Grief' by Jane Smiley. It is the last movie of the director, Alan Rudolph, till date. You might think that the lives of dentists are normal and boring, but this movie will certainly change your perception. It traces the lives of a dentist couple, sharing a dental practice in New York. Nothing abnormal you may say, but when the husband starts suspecting his wife for infidelity, their lives take a turn for the worse.

- Little Shop Of Horrors (1986): It is an out-and-out musical comedy, so if you don't like it when characters burst into vocals in the middle of the movie, don't go yet. The musical part makes the movie comical too! The only drawback of the movie in the eyes of the dentist is that the dentist in the movie gets murdered for being sadistic, and a boyfriend to the girl of the protagonist's dreams. The particular scene encompassing the dentist, Steve Martin, and the patient, Bill Murray, is highly amusing.

- Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964): Granted, this movie never reached the big screen, but it was the most beautiful movie featuring a dentist, or at least featuring a character with an ambition to become a dentist. What a wonderful ambition to have! (No sarcasm intended). It tells the story of a reindeer, who was ousted from the reindeer games, an elf (the one with the dentist dream), and the prospector. It is a feel good movie that is sure to invoke numerous emotions in you.

- Marathon Man (1976): This flick will scare you out of your wits, and you will think twice before taking that next dentist's appointment. Laurence Olivier plays the part of a dentist, and he looks frightening as he was. The scene where he drills a hole into an already terrified Dustin Hoffman's teeth will freak you out. The story is about a history graduate who gets entangled in an international conspiracy involving stolen diamonds, a Nazi criminal, and a government agent.

- Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (2005): This movie is adapted from a book by Roald Dahl with the same name. It is a scrumptious movie in all aspects, laden with a delectable chocolate bar at every step. Interestingly, even your dentist will recommend this movie, since it features a successful dentist in a small yet highly significant role. It tells the story of a kid who bags the chance of a lifetime – that of an exclusive visit to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, the most secluded yet fascinating place in town – along with four other kids. An essentially feel-good movie and a complete family entertainer.
