Having a drink at a bar or a pub is a great way to catch up with friends and family. With so many different types of beer and wine often available on the menu, it can be a hard task to know what to choose. This article takes a look at some popular types of beers and wines that are served up in pubs across Australia.

Beers

Many pubs will have beer that is available both on tap, or in bottles. The Bohemian Pilsner is a full bodied beer which has a distinctive dry aroma that is derived from Czech saaz hops.

A popular type of Bavarian Beer is the Bavarian Wheat Beer. This fermented beer has a mild bitterness level, and clove-like spices and aromas. It is extremely refreshing, making it the ideal drink for those hot summer months. This type of beer is served with a slice of lemon which will help to bring out its unique flavours.

In the winter months you may enjoy sipping on a Brewhouse Dark Beer. This is a full bodied beer which has a mild chocolate and caramel flavour. Brewhouse Dark is served through the tap, meaning that the nitrogen bubbles will enrich the beer and give it a smooth and very creamy head. This beer really has to be tasted to be believed! There is also a Brewhouse Light version of this drink available, which has a 3.5% alcohol content as opposed to the 4.5% content which the Brewhouse Dark has.

Beers in Australian pubs are typically served in either a middy, a pint or a jug.

White Wines

Popular types of white wine include sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and riesling. Some makes of white wines include Brown Brothers Crouchen Riesling, Houghton’s White Classic, Penfolds Rawsons Retreat Chardonnay, Amberley Chenin Blanc and Vasse Felix CDW. Marlborough Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine which originates from New Zealand, but it can sometimes be found in Australian pubs. The Devil’s Lair Fifth Leg white wine is a pungent yet crisp and clean wine which won the gold medal in the Sydney wine show. It is produced in the Margaret River wine region of Australia.

Red Wines

Popular types of red wine include cabernet sauvignon, merlot and shiraz. Some makes of red wines that are served up in Australian pubs include Houghton’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Goundry’s Shiraz, Amberley Shiraz, and Devil’s Lair 5th Leg red wine. All of these listed wines are made in Western Australia. A popular red wine which originates from New South Wales is the Yellow Tail Merlot.
