As opposed to Belgium and Switzerland, the US has an active candy culture.

 From classic Halloween candy to the creations of a famous chocolatier who is now known not just for chocolate bars, but also for a theme park and an entire town in Pennsylvania, American candy satisfies a lot of sweet cravings and makes a lot of money every year.
The numbers vary slightly from year to year, but a few heavyweights consistently come out on top. For the purpose of this blog post, we have compiled statistics about sales, Google searches, and regional preference to create a list of the top ten best American candies.

10. Starburst
In 1967, Starburst wasn't actually an American candy. Before that, Starburst was based in the U.K. Starburst expanded into many different flavors since then, most famously Starburst Berries and Cream, which became famous through a quirky 2007 commercial in which viewers were taught how to do "The Little Lad Dance."

9. 3 Musketeers
A Mars product, the 3 Musketeers bar is famous for its chocolate exterior and creamy, whipped nougat filling. Not to be confused with the American Milky Way bar, the 3 Musketeers bar is essentially exactly the same as the European Milky Way bar.
Ever wondered how this candy bar got its name, though? When it was first released in 1932, each package contained three pieces – one chocolate, one vanilla, and one strawberry – hence the “3” in “3 Musketeers.”

7. Twizzlers

When it comes to non-chocolate American candy sales, Skittles beats Twizzlers. These fruit-flavored Mars Wrigley confections invented what it means to "Taste the Rainbow" by introducing line after line of special flavors, from Sour Skittles to more.

Twix, the chocolate-covered caramel cookie bars that always come in pairs, is another member of the Mars Wrigley family. Now Twix offers both Twix Ice Cream Bars and Twix Peanut Butter.


4. Kit Kat
In the same manner as Starburst, Kit Kat originated in Britain. Originally sold in tin boxes as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisps, the Kit Kat eventually migrated across the pond as well as well beyond. England and the Philippines have interesting flavors, and Japan has 200 varieties, including green tea, crème brûlée, melon, and soy sauce.
According to Insider, Kit Kats are the most-Googled candy in America.


3. Snickers
In terms of sales, Snickers comes in as America's third favorite candy. Not bad! Today, Insider lists Snickers as the American West's favorite candy as well as one of the top three most-Googled candy brands.


2. M&Ms

It's said that M&M's have over $450 million in sales a year. Whether you prefer the classic variety, peanut M&M's, or anything in between, M&M's are synonymous with American candy. Hershey’s Kisses
It is impossible to talk about American candy without discussing Hershey's Kisses. Though it didn't make it into the top ten list by sales, it came in at number 11, making it the number one Hershey's product in the country.
Chocolate
Just one glance at our list of the best American candy reveals how much Americans love chocolate. The top five candies on the list are all chocolates, and seven of the ten are chocolate.
Mars
A whopping seven out of ten of America’s best candies are made by Mars Wrigley, which also makes much of one of America’s other favorite: bubble gum.
