Say Ciao To A Beginner Family Ski Holiday In Italy

Italy is one of the best countries in Europe for first-time skiers and is home to some great family-friendly resorts.

Taking the family on your first skiing trip? Look no further than the Italian resorts of Cervinia, Cortina, Livigno and Corvara! Italy is known worldwide for its fantastic food, beautiful scenery and inviting atmosphere, and all of this and more is showcased at these four skiing resorts.

Encouraging a more laid-back atmosphere than other skiing destinations such as France, Switzerland and Austria, these Italian resorts have less of a focus on sporting ability. This makes Italy the perfect country for families heading off on their first winter sports getaway.

Cervinia

With 18 perfectly groomed blue runs in the resort of Cervinia, this is the ideal destination for beginners and young children. If the kids are feeling brave enough to take on the red runs after a few days getting used to the gear, you’ll be able to slowly ease yourselves into them at Cervinia. The resort offers several relatively tame red runs.

Piste five is a great place to begin your training. This route will take you through the lively town, allowing an opportunity to blend in with the locals and stop for a tiramisu on the way!

Cervinia also boasts inflatables, magic carpets and designated areas for children, so is perfectly equipped to look after and entertain the whole family.

Cortina

The quality of the ski schools in Cortina is fantastic, whilst the relatively uncrowded pistes also make for a perfect resort in which to ski for the first time. You’ll find numerous nursery slopes as well as various blue runs – ideal for taking your first steps on the slopes. The views from this resort are truly spectacular, so if you need a break from skiing you can simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Livigno

There are several excellent ski schools in operation in Livigno, including Scuola Sci Centrale and Livigno Ski School. The resort is filled with blue runs – experts flying down the slopes at speed are confined to another area.

The base of the resort sits at 1805m, so you don’t need to worry about the amount of snow on the lower and gentler slopes. Once you’ve tackled these, the rest of the resort is yours for the taking!

Corvara

There are 70km of blue runs in the resort of Corvara, with well over half of the area featuring these gentle pistes. Sodlisia, which is situated just above the village, is a great place to start if you’re looking to take it easy.

Before You Go
