Academic Scholarships for Equine Boarding Schools

Equine boarding schools, just like non-equine boarding schools, provide academic scholarships for highly-qualified students.

Equine boarding schools, just like non-equine boarding schools, provide academic scholarships for highly-qualified students. If your child is a horseman or horsewoman, he/she can attend an equine boarding school on academic scholarships that will cover most of the costs of education. In fact, at least 20% of students attending boarding schools do so with some sort of scholarship.

The most common form is the merit scholarship. The merit can be in any of different areas: academics, artistry, athleticism, musicianship, and yes, horsemanship, if it is an equine boarding school.
School Sponsored Scholarships

There are several places to find scholarships for your child’s school. For scholarships from the school itself, you can expect an average of 50% of the costs of attending to be covered. Your child will have to clear exams to determine qualifications, and there may be a waiting list.
Special Interest Scholarships

However, there are many several sources to consider for scholarships to equine boarding schools. If your child has been involved in horsemanship for different years, and competitive in riding competitions, check with riding and horse organizations. For instance, the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) has given away nearly $5 million in scholarships in the last 30 years. There are many organizations for the Standardbred horse, and most of them offer scholarships. The Arabian Horse Association, thoroughbred associations, and just about any other breed of horse has organizations will have scholarships available.

Many of these scholarships are accessible only to students going to college and majoring in equine studies of some kind. However, there are still many accessible for the high school student with a proven love and skill in his field.

Not to be overlooked are the scholarships for other special situations. Many schools offer discounts or scholarships for children of public servants. These are accessible to the offspring of policemen and firefighters, and in some cases, EMS personnel. There are often discounts and scholarships available for children of veterans, as well.

If you are part of an organization or certain profession, that organization may provide scholarships. Policeman funds, union organizations, even societies, fraternities, and sororities will provide scholarships to members and alumni.

Check, also, with any medical organizations., If your child has a medical condition, such as asthma, ADHD, cystic fibrosis, deafness, heart defects, dyslexia, etc., you may be able to get scholarships to attend private schooling, especially if they have programs designed for these conditions.

Attendance at an equine boarding school is a wonderful experience. Children who spend time training and interacting with animals generate much more confidence and poise. The wonderful horses in the school stables are selected for their particular abilities, so you can be assured  that your child will be matched up with the perfect mount. Whether beginner or advanced showman, your child will find interaction with horses as liberating as it is exhilarating, and the educational chances offered by equine classes will develop a fine and memorable experience.
