Upgrades to the new 2014 model include a new design for the exterior's front, comfortable front seats and a cabin area that provides noise reduction. The 2014 Malibu also comes equipped with Chevrolets’ MyLink, a Windows-based system which is easy to use and syncs with a smartphone using a USB and Bluetooth. This infotainment system with touchscreen control also provides voice control, listening to music through a Bluetooth with a phone connection, a CD player and a six speaker sound design.

As far as safety features, the 2014 Malibu features standard anti-lock brakes and airbags near the front knee and side, rear side airbags and side curtain airbags. Other standard features are the traction and stability control. A rearview camera is also provided to offer drivers some peace of mind by using automatic security and safety features. You also get OnStar telematics system; this includes auto crash alerts, roadside assistance on demand, stolen vehicle help and door unlocking which can be implemented by remote. An additional package can be added on which offers various safety components such as a collision warning when the vehicle is moving forward and lane changing caution, a feature which monitors potential blind-spots and an alert system to monitor cross-traffic in the rear. Regarding government crash testing which was done, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety honored the Chevy Malibu with a “good” rating which is its highest in their tests which measure roof strength, side impact and modest overlap front offset testing. As far as its head and seat restraint designs, they also rate favorably in the event of a rear impact accident.

Compared to the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, the 2014 features some front end alterations such as a longer hood and more unique grille openings that are highlighted with touches of chrome. Fuel economy for city and highway driving was improved due to enhancements made to the 2.5 liter engine, as well as to its stop and start expertise. Fuel figures are about 25 mpg for city driving and 36 mpg on the highway.
