2014 Toyota Sequoia Gets Entune Audio

Toyota recently announced that the 2014 Toyota Sequoia SUV will come equipped with Toyota’s newly enhanced Entune Audio system. First introduced in 2011 for the 2012 model year, and featured only on the Prius hybrid, the Entune Audio Plus system comes with Sirius XM satellite radio, and the Entune app suite can be used from a connected smart phone. This suite of apps includes the iHeartradio and Pandora Internet radio services, search sites Bing and Yelp, MovieTickets.com, the OpenTable restaurant reservations utility, as well as apps providing local fuel prices and access to sports news and scores and stock prices.

The Toyota Sequoia comes in three model series: SR5, Limited, and Platinum. The SR5 comes standard with the Entune Audio Plus system, featuring a 6.1” high resolution touchscreen display, AM/FM radio and CD/DVD player (the DVD player can only be used if the car is parked), Bluetooth connectivity and streaming, a USB 2.0 port with iPod connectivity, advanced voice recognition, Sirius XM satellite radio, and radio, weather, and traffic map utilities all in HD. A three-month subscription to the Sirius XM Select package, giving you access to over 140 satellite radio channels, comes with the car. According to Auto Trader, the Entune apps package is now subscription-free.

The Limited series models will also include a navigation (GPS) system, Gracenote music database, enhanced hybrid predictive traffic and weather forecasting (the weather features a Doppler map), and the ability to use the entire Entune app suite (which must be installed on a smart phone). For plug-in hybrid models there are apps for charge management and to locate charging, remote climate control, a vehicle finder, and the ECO (economy) dashboard. These apps allow you to track your vehicle’s fuel economy and carbon footprint statistics on your smart phone (either Android or iPhone—the Toyota site will help you find out if your phone is compatible with the Entune system). A JBL digital amplifier and speaker system is included in the Platinum series, and also comes as an option package for the Limited series.

The voice recognition system allows hands-free operation of your Bluetooth connected smart phone, including some of the Entune suite of apps. The Entune app suite gives you and your family a host of entertainment and information services. iHeartradio gives you access to a host of free Internet radio stations, neatly categorized by genre. Pandora is a service (available only in the US, Australia, and New Zealand) that plays music tailored to your tastes and preferences. The Gracenote music database (available with the Limited and Platinum series) will instantly give you background information on whatever song is currently playing. Bing and Yelp both enable you to lookup and find local businesses and attractions close to where you are (and even give you directions). MovieTickets.com and OpenTable let you find nearby movie theaters and restaurants and buy tickets or book reservations.
